The SandmanWilliam Baker, aka Flint Marko, escapes from a federal penitentiary and hides at a nuclear test site. While lying on a nearby beach, he is accidently bombarded with a massive dose of radiation. Marko awakes to find that he can transform his body into an animated, sand-like substance, controlling both shape and density. As the Sandman, he battles heroes like Spiderman, the Fantastic Four and the Hulk, both on his own and as part of supervillain teams like the Frightful Four and the Sinister Six
