After visiting the far east, wealthy socialite Wesley Dodds is plagued with alternating bouts of nightmares and insomnia. He finds himself compelled to travel the night, battling criminals as the Sandman, a living nightmare to evil doers. Armed only with a gas mask and gas gun, the Sandman is one of the earliest masked heroes of the golden age, and a founding member of the Justice Society of America.
